Write For Us
Pitch a parenting, pregnancy or baby-care article to SA Baby. Guidelines, pay, and what we look for in contributors.
We are looking for writers
SA Baby commissions from midwives, paediatric nurses, lactation consultants, dietitians, sleep practitioners, child psychologists, doulas and experienced parenting journalists. If you can explain something difficult clearly and kindly, we want to read your pitch.
What we publish
- Practical how-to guides that solve one problem completely.
- Evidence explainers that translate a guideline or study into something usable.
- First-person parenting essays with a takeaway beyond the anecdote.
- Product buying guides based on genuine hands-on testing.
- Cultural and naming features, especially on South African and diaspora naming traditions.
What we do not publish
Thinly rewritten content, unlabelled promotional pieces, guest posts written purely for a backlink, generic AI drafts, medical claims without sourcing, or anything that shames a parent for how they feed, birth or work.
Guidelines
- 1,200–2,000 words for guides; 800–1,200 for essays.
- Answer the reader’s question in the first 100 words.
- Use descriptive H2 and H3 headings, short paragraphs and lists where they help.
- Cite national health guidance or peer-reviewed sources for any health claim, with links.
- Include 3–5 FAQs and a short, non-repetitive conclusion.
- Write in British English, second person, warm and direct.
- Original work only — we run plagiarism checks and we do not accept previously published pieces.
How to pitch
Email write@sa.baby with: a working title, a two-sentence summary, a bulleted outline, why you are the person to write it, and two published samples. Pitches beat finished drafts. We reply to every pitch, usually within five working days.
Payment and credit
Commissioned pieces are paid per article, agreed before you start, and invoiced on publication. Every contributor gets a full author page with a biography, credentials, photo and links, plus a byline on every piece.
Editing
We edit for clarity, accuracy and house style, and you see the edited version before it goes live. Health content also passes a review step, and we may come back with sourcing questions.
