About Us
SA Baby is an independent parenting publication covering pregnancy, birth, baby care and family life with evidence-led, plain-language guidance.
Who we are
SA Baby is an independent parenting publication built by a small team of writers, editors, midwifery-trained reviewers and parents who were tired of searching for a straight answer at 3am. We publish practical guidance on trying to conceive, pregnancy, birth, newborn care, feeding, sleep, health, development and the messy, wonderful years that follow.
The site began with a simple observation: most parenting content online is either too vague to act on or too clinical to read when you are exhausted. We wanted something in the middle — accurate enough that a nurse would nod along, warm enough that a first-time parent at the end of a hard night feels supported rather than judged.
What we cover
- Pregnancy — week-by-week changes, symptoms, scans and tests, nutrition, movement, mental health and birth preparation.
- Baby care — bathing, nappies, skin, cord care, safe sleep, soothing, routines and the practical logistics of the fourth trimester.
- Feeding — breastfeeding, formula, combination feeding, pumping, weaning and family meals.
- Health — common illnesses, fevers, rashes, reflux, allergies, immunisations and the red flags that mean it is time to call a professional.
- Parenting — sleep, behaviour, milestones, screens, siblings, childcare, discipline that respects the child, and looking after yourself too.
- Baby names — a searchable dictionary of more than 10,000 names with meanings, origins, pronunciation, numerology and sibling pairings.
- Tools — free calculators for due dates, ovulation, growth, sleep, feeding, immunisations and more, all running privately in your browser.
How we work
Every article starts with a question real parents ask. We research it against national health guidance, peer-reviewed literature and paediatric best practice, then we write it in language you can use immediately. Health-related pages are reviewed before publication and re-checked on a rolling schedule so that guidance never quietly goes stale.
We are careful about the difference between evidence and opinion. Where the research is strong, we say so. Where parents reasonably disagree — sleep training, dummies, co-sleeping arrangements, screen time — we lay out the trade-offs and let you decide for your family. You will not find shaming here.
Independence
SA Baby is funded by advertising and, on some pages, affiliate links. Advertisers never see or influence our editorial before publication, and no brand can buy a recommendation. If we would not give a product to a friend, it does not make our lists. Read our Editorial Policy and Disclaimer for the full detail.
Our promise
Accurate, current, kind. We will always tell you when something needs a doctor rather than a website, we will always show you when a page was last updated, and we will always answer an email from a reader who spots something wrong. You can reach us any time at hello@sa.baby.
