Medical Disclaimer

Important notice: SA Baby provides general health information, not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Please read this carefully

The health information on sa.baby — including articles, calculators, checklists and answers to reader questions — is general information for education. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified health professional.

Always ask a professional

Speak to your midwife, GP, obstetrician, paediatrician, pharmacist or nurse before acting on anything you read here, and especially before starting, stopping or changing any medication, supplement, feeding plan or treatment. Never delay seeking care, or disregard advice you have been given, because of something you read on this website.

In an emergency

If you or your baby has a medical emergency, call your local emergency number or go to the nearest emergency department immediately. Do not use this website.

Get urgent help if a baby: is difficult to wake or unusually floppy; is struggling to breathe, grunting, or has blue lips; has a fever under three months of age; has a rash that does not fade under pressure; has a bulging fontanelle; is having a seizure; refuses feeds repeatedly; or has significantly fewer wet nappies than usual. In pregnancy, seek urgent care for heavy bleeding, severe or sudden headache, blurred vision, severe upper abdominal pain, reduced or absent baby movements, or fluid loss before 37 weeks.

About our calculators

Due dates, ovulation windows, growth estimates, feeding volumes, sleep schedules and immunisation timelines produced by our tools are estimates derived from published averages and standard formulas. Individual babies and pregnancies vary widely. A scan-confirmed due date from your clinician always takes precedence over any calculator, including ours.

Immunisation schedules

Immunisation timetables differ between countries and are periodically revised. Our generated schedule is a planning aid; your national schedule and your clinic’s record are the authority.

No professional relationship

Reading this site, emailing us or commenting does not create a doctor–patient, midwife–client or any other professional relationship.

Reviewed content

Health articles are reviewed by health-trained reviewers before publication and re-checked on a schedule. Review improves accuracy; it does not make general information personal advice.
